Spiltmilk Dance is Looking for Performers for its Next Stage Project “The Love Project”

We are on the hunt for a charismatic performer to join us for our next stage of research and development for  The Love Project

We’d love to meet someone that can help us stick a big fat ray of sunshine into the world of contemporary dance, something we’ve been doing since 2006. We tour nationally to community venues with a signature style of dance performance combined with sketch comedy, and also deliver a wide range of projects in the heart of communities across the country. Our work is driven by pop culture; the things that unite people regardless of age, or social, cultural or economical background, often fueled by plenty of cups of tea, cake and uncontrollable laughter!

Think this may be for you? Then please read on…

A bit about The Love Project

We are passionate about honouring the things in life that we all have in common, regardless of age, gender, or social or cultural background and that’s what The Love Project is all about.

The company have been gathering love stories of all kinds from people across the country. From grand gestures of love to food fantasies, and fantastic friends to favourite days of the week, this is a mission to celebrate the fact that no matter what divides us, love unites us all.

Through this research and development phase, the stories gathered will be used to inspire the creation of a cabaret evening to be performed at a community venue.

This is research and development for what is intended to become a more extensive project in the future.

What we are looking for

We are currently open about the specialism of the performer we are looking for. Although the ideal candidate will be comfortable with movement and performing some choreography, we are interested in meeting performers from music, theatre or circus backgrounds, as well as dancers.

We are looking for charming, charismatic performers who have good musicality, confidence in delivering text, an interest in working within communities, a good sense of humour, and an ability to work well under pressure.

We are open to applicants with different levels of experience, and of all ages.

Should you have any access concerns please get in touch with the company in advance so that we can aim to support you to the best of our ability.

Candidates will need a full DBS check.

Interested?

Any interested performers are invited to join us at the following session, so we can get to know each other a bit better:

DATE:        Thursday 1st September 2016

VENUE:   Attenborough Arts Centre, Lancaster Road, Leicester, LE1 7HA

TIME:         2 – 5.30pm

What to Expect

The session will include a range of activities aimed at helping us get to know more about you as a person and a performer. We will do a range of games and devising tasks to give you an insight into how we create work, and these will include movement and text based tasks, as well as some improvisation and some chances to chat.

Please note that although there will be some movement tasks, we will not do a traditional contemporary dance class.

Project Details

Exact project dates are still to be confirmed, but you are likely to be needed for 6 days between Wednesday 14th – Saturday 24th September, so some availability during this time is essential.

Please note that although this is a short engagement, it is hoped that the successful artist will be engaged in future projects.

Fee: £100 per day PLUS travel and accommodation where necessary

This opportunity is open; everyone is invited. If you are attending, please just email us with a quick message to [email protected] to give us an idea of how many people to expect.

Deadline for applications is Wednesday 31st August 2016 at 5pm.

The Love Project is supported by artsdepot, Creative Arts East, Nechells POD, In Good Company, and the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
