Amsterdam Summer Intensive 2018

In collaboration with the Julidans Festival the Amsterdam Summer Intensive is back once again, but this time at the Henny Jurriëns Studio from July 7th to the 27th. With a mix of new and returning artists, the 2018 season is guaranteed to provide another extraordinary three weeks of exploration and investigation for the professional dancer. There will be classes in Ballet, Contemporary and Alexander Technique, and workshops with Hofesh Schecter, Frantics Dance Company and more! On top of the opportunity to participate in weekly informal showings,

this program also allows applicants to create their own schedule – two perks I personally appreciate and would love to take advantage of. Don’t miss out!

one small step festival 2018

What better place to spend two weeks of your summer experiencing art and culture than in Greece?! Under the direction of Christine Mertzani and Evangelos Poulinas, one small step festival is offering a diverse program of movement research, master classes and performance projects made available to both professional and non-professional dance enthusiasts. Taking place in beautiful Corfu between July 23rd and August 4th, one small step will be an opportune experience for artistic exchange between participants of the program and the incredible faculty of collaborators. A day at the sea and a performance at the end of the festival are also on the plan of events. All things considered it seems like one small step will make for a great summer dance experience – to connect with other artists and enjoy two weeks of exploration.

Okay…so this is something I’m particularly eager to share with you. As an advocate of prioritizing proper self-care amidst the intensity of freelance life the mission behind Laughton Retreat is one I really support. This platform is designed to provide all professional arts practitioners with the space to take a pause from their active projects in order to “relax, recharge and reconnect”. From July 30th to August 4th, Pippa and Ben Duke (director of Lost Dog) open their creative home at the Laughton Lodge in East Sussex to host six days of workshop, yoga, dancing, making, bushcraft, cycling, jamming, eating, river swimming and sleeping. Teachers include Phil Hulford (hofesh shechter), Lewis Wilkins (ex SDT, freelance performer & somatic/improv/martial arts teacher), Pippa Duke (NDT) and Q&A with Jerry Rothwell (award winning documentary film maker). While still honouring the individual needs of each guest and providing them with the freedom to participate however they choose, Laughton Retreat follows a communal living philosophy where many of the activities are experienced together.
