WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

‍Attack Theatre seeks two company members for a 27 – 30-week full-time contract for the 2021 – 2022 season beginning November 29, 2021 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Company members are part of a small ensemble of movers, collaborators, creators, educators, learners, and curious thinkers. Attack Theatre is seeking compelling dance artists with strong technique, the desire to collaborate within the creative process, the flexibility to work in a variety of performance styles and venues, experience and interest in education and community environments, and the desire to engage authentically as part of a cohesive ensemble and as an expressive soloist.

Attack Theatre seeks dance artists who possess a ravenous curiosity for movement and the creative process. Company members are expected to improvise and work with props and objects in creative play and performance settings. Dancers will share their own weight and support the weight of others in close physical contact. Company members are key participants in the development and sharing of new forms of artistic inquiry and audience engagement.

Attack Theatre is a teaching company with creative learning programs rooted in reflection, investigation, and imagination. Company members must be comfortable teaching and engaging in school and diverse learning environments. Individual support and training in Attack Theatre teaching pedagogy will be provided.

Attack Theatre strives to hire and support company members and teaching artists who reflect and represent the diversity of the communities, students and audiences we serve. We seek artists, collaborators and partners who bring diverse voices, identities and lived experiences to the company and to the work. As a company, we realize that we can be better; and will continue to listen, learn, unlearn and relearn to be better. Black, Indigenous, people of color and LGBTQIA+ dance artists are welcome here and are encouraged to apply.

The company dancer work schedule is a full-time commitment Monday-Friday, however, early morning, evening, and occasional weekend commitments are a requirement of the position. Any candidate offered a position will be required to present proof of Covid-19 vaccination and must be able to pass Act 151 (Child Abuse History), Act 34 (Criminal Record Check) and Act 114 (FBI Federal Criminal History). All artists applying must be either citizens of the US or have valid working visas.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS‍

Weekly salary ranges from $455 to $600.

Attack Theatre provides a benefits package including health, dental, and vision insurance plans, a 401(k) plan with employer match, and paid holidays. Attack Theatre supports mentorship and other opportunities for the growth and professional development of all its artists and employees.

EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER

Attack Theatre’s goal is to be a diverse workforce that is representative, within all job functions, of the communities we serve – and as such, we are an Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action Employer. Employment with Attack Theatre is based upon capabilities and qualifications without discrimination based on race, color, religion, creed, ancestry, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, marital status, veteran status, citizenship status, or any other protected characteristic as established by law.

WHO WE ARE

Under the artistic direction of Peter Kope and Michele de la Reza, Attack Theatre is now entering its 27th season. Combining contemporary dance, live music, and multimedia to create “delicious moments of intimacy” (Le Dauphine Vaucluse-Matin, France), the company has produced over 150 original works in theatrical and site-specific settings. The company has choreographed and performed for symphonies, theater companies, art museums, and for the Broadway production of Squonk. Attack Theatre’s dance productions and events have toured throughout the US, Europe, and Asia.

Attack Theatre connects with students and teachers through arts education programs that focus on integrating kinesthetic learning strategies into the educational environment. These programs include residencies for students, professional development workshops for educators, and in-school assembly programs. With a core belief that movement is an essential part of living and learning, the company also takes these programs into community centers and neighborhood events to emphasize creative wellness through dance and movement.

OUR CORE VALUES

COLLABORATION – We foster creative partnerships with artists, audiences, and communities as an integral part of our artistic vision.

ENGAGEMENT – We forge connections that extend beyond the company’s boundaries, building relationships with our audience and our community.

EXPRESSION – We cultivate a spirit of inquiry and experimentation at the heart of our creative process.

INCLUSIVITY – We open our doors and our process to anyone who seeks to challenge their perspective and expand artistic boundaries.

LEARNING – We nurture the next generation of artists, thinkers, and leaders through programs that are rooted in reflection, investigation, and imagination.
