MICHIYAYA Dance Seeks Femme-Identifying Apprentice for 2018-2019 Season
MICHIYAYA Dance is a femme-identifying contemporary dance theater company based in New York City. Our mission is to present multidisciplinary performances to inspire and empower humans with limitless boundaries. We are focused in specifically on offering accessible, educational public initiatives nurturing voices and creativity to youth and adults of all backgrounds.
Co-founded by Anya Clarke and Mitsuko Verdery. Clarke and Verdery are an award-winning, multimedia duo from New York City that synthesize dance and visual art. MICHIYAYA Dance was awarded the 2016 first prize for Choreographic Excellence at the 11th Annual International REVERBdance Festival. They were recently awarded the 2017 Pittsburgh-based Opportunity Fund Grant and the Foundation for Contemporary Arts Emergency Grant. MICHIYAYA Dance was featured in THINX’s first activewear period-proof line. They have performed at venues such as Yale University, Brooklyn Museum, Baruch Performing Arts Center, Gibney, Salvatore Capezio Theater and more. They are currently working on their newest work-in-progress /wA?/ to premiere April 2019 at the 14th Street Y as a part of their 2018-2019 Season.

How to Apply: Please send: headshot, resume/CV, 3-5 minute video of improvisational movement. Video should be 1 to 2 cuts maximum, no reels. Email all material to [email protected]
Deadline for Applications: August 1, 2018
Audition Process: Those chosen will be asked to attend a full month of rehearsals starting September 7th, 2018. An apprentice will be chosen October 1st.
