Artist Sue de Beer is Looking for Dancers
Sue de Beer is looking to cast dancers for her new film, titled The Iron Tonic. De Beer is an artist, working with narrative film, whose work has been collected by institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Brooklyn Museum, Walker, the Goetz Collection, and many others. She is a 2016 Guggenheim Fellow, and has exhibited at Galleries and Museums internationally, with institutions such as the Whitney, the Kunst Werke in Berlin, Haus Der Kunst in Munich, the MuHka Museum in Antwerp, and many others.
De Beer’s new film, The Iron Tonic, is a Mary Shelley-inspired science fiction piece; set in 2093, after a Climate Change event blankets the world with ice and snow. It shows the before and after, using stylized sets and back projection footage, to locate the character in a fictional world. In previous films, de Beer has worked with dancers, artists and musicians as leads in her films.
The dancers we’re looking to cast in The Iron Tonic are for a Frankenstein-like character, based on the iconic monster from Shelley’s novel Frankenstein, and a Writer (two of the four main characters):
Frankenstein – would preferably be someone tall, and can be male or female.
The Writer – would be female, preferably someone who is in their 20s – 40s. There is a pre-and post ‘Great Frost’ in the film, and post ‘Great Frost’ this character will be depicted pregnant (using padding/props).
Performances would be paid, $200 per shoot day for each dancer, plus transportation. Shooting for the film will take place in Sue’s studio upstate in Cold Spring, New York, and at another larger upstate location TBD. The shoot would be scheduled around the availability of the cast members and crew, taking place Spring through Fall 2024. Total for each role would involve 3 days each of filming.
