Audition for new Dance Theatre Work by Sweetshop Revolution (UK)
Sweetshop Revolution are seeking two professional contemporary dancers or actors, male or female for their new, full-length dance theatre work, ‘I’m not Dead, I’m only Sleeping’, a dance theatre production which explores the way we choose to live and die. This new work is about love, devotion, loss, memory and resolution – traversing feelings around death and how to live fully in the moment.
We work with improvisation and are particularly interested in emotionally experienced contemporary dance artists – willing to explore vulnerability and share their own lives in process and on stage. We’re also open to a range of cultural dance techniques, with the focus being on dance artists from around 28 years – 78 years of age upwards, who have some life experience of either losing someone they loved or the end of an relationship.
We see people as artists in their own right and are interested their perspectives, not just through a minority world lens. And so are keen to talk to global majority dance / theatre artists – who identify as having full or partial African Diaspora, East/South East Asian and South Asian and Latin American heritage. Disabled artists, non-normative body types and people who identify as gay and trans artists are also particularly encouraged to apply. Rehearsal schedule: 5th Feb – 14th March ( 5 weeks with a few days off in the middle)
( You will need to be able to self isolate for the 2 weeks prior to the rehearsal process.)
Further rehearsals – to be confirmed once the funding is.
4 weeks in May / June: Equity.
Creation period: Oct / Nov 2021
Touring: Spring 2022 ( National Tour already booked )
Applicants need to be available for all of these periods of time, though dates are flexible.
Fee: 5 weeks: Equity plus travel, accommodation, breakfast and dinner.
Covid Info: Applicants need to be prepared self isolate in the 2 weeks before we start, be able to be tested before we go, and then be able to relocate to Liverpool and work in a Covid-safe bubble for 5 weeks. (We will be self distancing once there for the first 10 days, testing during the process, and using private transport to take you to and from Liverpool, depending on where you live. Accommodation is on site.
