About The Work

The Art of Seafaring will be a 45 minute evening length work detailing the triumphs and tribulations of 5 individuals who have been lost at sea for hundreds of years. The work will take the audience of a journey of isolation, jubilation, tenacity, delirium, and dashed hopes. Through the course of their journey the cast has banded together, forming complex relationships of love, hate, animosity, and jealousy. The audience watches as they console each other during times of desperation, devise new plans for escape in moments of hope, and find moments of levity in their given situation. At the center of the work is the installation, a hanging center piece featuring knotted ropes, a distorted mast, and sail fabric as a visual representation of their tangled relationships and trials they have overcome.

The creation and premise of this work, although unique, deeply resonates with the lived experiences we’ve had through the COVID-19 pandemic. As a community we have felt isolation, dashed hopes, the feeling of time flying by while standing still. I hope to tap into these lived experiences with the cast to build this work authentically in a way that will connect uniquely with each audience member.
