Award winning choreographer Gary Clarke requires 1 versatile and highly skilled male dancer to join Gary Clarke Company for the UK Autumn tour of the critically acclaimed mid-scale dance theatre production COAL
Marking the 30th anniversary to the end of the 1984 British miners’ strike, COAL is a riveting piece of dance theatre which takes a nostalgic look at the hard hitting realities of life at the coal face. Described by The Times as ‘Outstanding’ the production involves a company of professional dancers, live brass bands, community participants and a strong design and production team. Job Role
The successful artist will be required to: Successfully learn the repertoire from COAL from an existing role. Perform COAL at various mid-scale theatre venues nationwide in Autumn 2016 (11 shows in total). Perform certain sections of COAL at site-specific locations linked to each venue and area. Deliver COAL workshops at schools, colleges and universities nationwide. Work with and alongside groups of women from coal mining communities.

19th to 24th September 2016 – Rehearsals in London (venue TBC)
25th September to 1st October – The Tramway Theatre in Glasgow
15th to 22nd October – The Lawrence Batley Theatre in Huddersfield
23rd to 29th October – The Gulbenkian Theatre in Canterbury
5th to 12th November – The Gala Theatre in Durham
19th to 26th November – The Blackwood Miners Welfare Institute in Caerphilly: Wales
3rd to 10th December – The Contact Theatre in Manchester
£500 per week x 7 weeks engagement = £3500 (freelance contract) PLUS additional travel, accommodation and per diems covered
(Other additional dates for performances and workshops for Autumn 2016 may be added in discussion with the artists and the
company and additional touring dates for Spring 2017 will be confirmed by August 2016)
Audition is by invitation ONLY and interested applicants should demonstrate:
A very strong contemporary dance technique, strong floor work technique, a strong physical build, strong physical theatre skills, experience in highly physical work, good contact and partnering skills, very good stamina, good improvisation and creative skills, good musicality, confidence in text work, the ability to connect with very emotionally driven work, a willingness and openness to work with the community / non-dancers, a good working attitude, a good sense of humour, the ability to collaborate and work well as a team, the ability to work well under pressure, confidence and experience in delivering education and outreach work, a full CRB check
