Shaper/Caper is Looking for 6 Contemporary Dancers
Shaper/Caper are on the search for a cast of 6 contemporary dancers with at least 3 years professional experience to join the cast of ‘Small Town Boys’, choreographed by Shaper/Caper’s multi-award-winning Artistic Director and choreographer, Thomas Small.
Transporting us back to the days of the 1980s AIDS crisis, ‘Small Town Boys’ explores what life was like for queer communities then, and how we can still see the impact now. Through contemporary dance and verbatim spoken word, ‘Small Town Boys’ gives a voice to the silenced and breathes life back into forgotten memories of the time.
We are particularly keen to receive submissions from performers who identify as LGBTQ+ alongside allies to the community. We strive to build a team that reflects the diversity of the community and encourage those who often feel underrepresented to apply. In addition, we are aware of the lack of representation for transgender creatives, therefore one of the roles is ring-fenced for a trans dancer.
Due to the subject matter of the production, counselling is available during this project.
The fee is £720 per week, plus subsistence as required throughout the engagement. The creation and performances will take place in Dundee, Scotland. The working week shall be no more than 40 hours worked over no more than 6 days in a 7-day period. For most of the contract, this will be Monday to Friday, 10am – 6pm. The hours and conditions of work shall be agreed between The Company and the Company Members before the first rehearsal begins.

Performance dates: 8 August – 12 August 2023 (6-week contract)

Requirements:
3+ years professional experience
Applicants should have a strong contemporary dance technique, physical theatre skills, a willingness to explore text work, and be familiar with a devising-based process.

Where:
Auditions between Dundee and London, rehearsals and performance in Dundee, UK
When:
Tuesday 28 February in Dundee or Friday 3 March in London (you will be asked to indicate which you will be attending in the application form). Call-backs will take place the following day.
