Summer International Workshop “Acting in Physical Theatre” in Berlin
A 5-day international intensive in Meyerhold’s Biomechanics, Chekhov’s Psychological Gesture, and Stanislavski’s Physical Action.
Led by Sergei and Gennadiy Ostrenko, this program integrates three major psychophysical traditions into a single, structured training framework. Over 28 hours of intensive practical work, participants engage with Biomechanical etudes, Psychological Gesture as a tool for character and scene work, and Physical Action as a method for building truthful, embodied performance.
The training moves from improvisation exercises – progressing from simple to complex – through space exploration and partner interaction, to ensemble-building work, text integration, and scene composition. Participants test these methods across floorwork, acting and directing technique, and movement dramaturgy, working toward their application in rehearsal and performance-making contexts.
The program is designed for actors, directors, choreographers, dancers, and movement-based performers with professional experience. Admission is competitive and based on CV and artistic background. The workshop brings together an international group of practitioners – the peer environment is a working part of the training, not incidental to it.
