The Art of Duncan & Delsarte Workshop
Join us for two transformative weeks of intensive study exploring the roots of expressive, natural movement.
Returning to Athens for a third year, Joe Williams and Francesca Todesco offer an immersive and inclusive workshop designed for dancers and movers of diverse backgrounds and experience levels. Whether encountering this work for the first time or deepening an ongoing practice, participants are invited into a supportive environment that values curiosity, exploration, and personal discovery. Members of the Dances We Dance Performing Ensemble will join the process, enriching the experience through shared practice and exchange.
Throughout the workshop, participants engage with the principles of Isadora Duncan and François Delsarte through technique classes, guided movement exploration, and creative process, culminating in a student sharing with the Athens community and dancers from the Isadora and Raymond Duncan Dance Research Center.
Isadora Duncan’s visionary approach—rooted in breath, musicality, and the solar plexus—helped shape modern dance and remains deeply relevant today. Complementing this work, François Delsarte’s expressive system offers tools for understanding gesture, emotional truth, and the connection between inner impulse and outward form, providing a rich foundation for authentic movement and performance.
This workshop will be taught in English language.
Requirements:
All levels are welcome, however, while full two-week participation is strongly encouraged for the richest experience, dancers are welcome to join for any portion of the workshop.
