Yorkshire Dance are looking for up to 10 dancers aged 20-28 to join us for the second part of Performing
Gender, the European dance project on gender and sexual orientation differences, this autumn.

During this phase, Yorkshire Dance will host one international artist, supported by our local dramaturg, Tanya Steinhauser. The artist will lead a professional development workshop with the selected dancers.

We are looking for:

  • professionally trained dancers aged 20-28
  • an interest and curiosity in gender, dance and activism
  • dancers no longer in education or training (with the option of a few exceptions)
  • dancers based in the Leeds area (with a few places reserved for people from further afield)

The selected dancers will take part in a seven-day professional development workshop from Sat 20 – Fri 26 Oct with a presentation of a short work in the evening on Fri 26 Oct at Yorkshire Dance.

Selected dancers will receive lunch and a stipend of £275 to cover expenses. There is a limited amount to cover travel costs for 1-2 dancers from further afield.

 

Performing Gender: Dance Makes Differences is a European dance project focusing on gender, dance and activism.

It is a two-year programme to provide European dance artists and professionals with knowledge, skills and tools to develop a new form of narrative for LGBT+ identities and gender identities in general. In this project phase, dance artists from the UK, Italy, Slovenia, The Netherlands and Spain are developing their choreographic sketches together with five local dance dramaturgs. In autumn, each partner will invite one of the dance artists to develop his or her choreographic sketch together with up to 10 young professional dancers and the local dance dramaturg.

The 5 artists are:
Sophie Unwin (UK), Natasa Zivkovic (SL), Roberta Racis (IT), Koldo Arostegui Gonzalez (SP) and Jija Sohn (NL).
