Cambridge Youth Dance Program Company Auditions

The Cambridge Youth Dance Program and CYDP Dance Company, cited by the United States Senate in Washington, DC for providing a high-quality arts education, is an intensive pre-professional training and performance company. The versatility of the dancers captivates audiences with an impressive range of styles in the art of ballet, modern dance, character, Broadway, tap, jazz, and drama.

Under the artistic direction of founder, Deborah Mason, CYDP has flourished into a performing arts
program with a rigorous schedule and an extensive community outreach program. While fostering an appreciation for the performing arts, CYDP also encourages dancers to pursue their interests as choreographers, administrators, and other dance-related occupations.

Faculty includes Deborah Mason, Nina Pillar, Zabelle Margosian, David Drummond, Celia Marino, Adrienne Hawkins, Jenny Oliver, Jeryl Palana, Ian Berg and many more.

New students interested in auditioning for the CYDP Company, a non-profit pre-professional youth dance company, as well as returning students who did not receive their placements during the Master Series or Youth Intensive dance camp should plan to attend the following:

Ballet at 10am-11:30 am – August 26, 2017 – Ballet, jazz/contemporary, and modern placement are all determined at our ballet audition. Dancers will do a full barre and center work. Placement in any CYDP Dance Company jazz/contemporary and/or modern class requires at least 2 ballet classes per week as part of the curriculum.

Tap at 12pm-12:45pm – August 26, 2017 – Dancers will be given drills across the floor to assess skill level, accuracy, speed, and musicality. Tap dancers are not required to attend the ballet audition, as tap can be taken as a single subject.

Suggested Attire Ballet: Girls should attend in a solid color leotard (black preferred), ballet pink tights (convertible preferred as there may be a contemporary combination given), ballet slippers and pointe shoes (if applicable), hair in a neat bun.
Boys should attend in black dance tights, black or white t-shirt, black ballet slippers.

There is no cost to audition but registration is required.

Where: All auditions will take place at Deborah Mason Performing Arts Center, 624 Somerville Ave., Somerville.
