Akram Khan Repertoire Workshop | HJS Anniversary Intensive

Dive into the repertoire of Akram Khan and discover how he uses storytelling in his creations with this exclusive in-depth workshop with company member Ching-Ying Chien.|

In this workshop, we will delve into Akram Khan’s reason for creating choreographies:

“For Khan, storytelling, fables, folk songs and myths are an essential means of handing down memories, a consistent and recurring trope within his work.” (“Home was in my body” by Ben Bohm-Duchen for Contra-,magazine). The workshop will start with a practice combining some elements of Tai Chi, Chinese folk dance, floor work and vocal guidance. Participants will be able to explore stillness, energy transition and body transformation through improvisation. The articulation of these qualities will lead to learning excerpts from Akram Khan Company repertoire piece ‘Until the Lions’.

When: October 15 & 16, 2023
