Richard will lead a workshop based on Bystander’s themes of queerness, threat, safety, support, community and joy. There will be a limited number of people invited to the workshop. During the session Richard will lead a warm up and introduce Bystander’s themes, as well as teach the group some rep, and lead some creative tasks. Richard wants to keep things informal, light-hearted and fun to best showcase you.

Quick intro to Bystander:
Bystander, born from personal encounters with hate crimes and a growing awareness of rising incidents against sexual orientation and gender identity in London, Suffolk and Norfolk, is a dynamic research and movement project. Bystander seeks to reconfigure the audience’s understanding of queer bodies and collective responsibility, urging the public to relearn the role of the active bystander.

The rehearsal and development phase, with 4 dancers, will be inquiring into the role of the self and attempting to understand interpersonal relationships within this small company through solo investigation and using Richard’s practice that is heavily informed by physical performance and contact work.

Alongside this aspect of the project there will also be a series of 10 workshops for a non-movement trained Queer identifying communtiy focus group aswell as a series of 5 panel discussions supported by Queer Circle and London LGBTQ+ Centre. Both of these strands of the project will inform our studio research. We will also be providing Active Bystander training at all our partner venues for cast members, creative team, partner venue staff and members of the public.
