Sadler’s Wells and Universal Music UK with ZooNation: The Kate Prince Company are auditioning dancers for the national and international tour of hit production Message In A Bottle, directed and choreographed by Kate Prince (ZooNation: The Kate Prince Company) and inspired by the hits of music icon, Sting.

We are looking for world-class dancers with the highest levels of skill. We welcome dancers from all ethnicities and cultural backgrounds who are charismatic and highly skilled whose abilities span more than just one genre of dance, including but not limited to contemporary, breaking, locking, popping, house dance, krump, African dance, lindy hop, salsa, experimental and freestyle.

We want to work with dancers who love to tell stories and feel comfortable doing character work. There is a lot of ensemble work in the production and performers will need to be adaptable to different styles and able to follow choreography. Each dancer will learn several roles.

This is a barefoot production, there is no requirement to speak or sing.

Essential criteria

  • Highly skilled physical dance ability and comfortable with storytelling through choreography
  • Proficiency in more than one genre of dance
  • Ease at picking up material/choreography
  • Prepared to learn 2 to 3 roles

Please be aware that as a requirement of the engagement, you will be working

  • In a dark space and with flashing lights (no strobe)
  • In an area with loud sound
  • As part of a large ensemble/group
  • Barefoot throughout the whole show
  • With large pieces of set to be moved by the performers

Applicants must be aged 18+ at the time of the audition.

Dates of the engagement

The engagement will be from 9 August 2021 until 15 November 2021. This is inclusive of a 5-week rehearsal period (including a production week) and a national and international tour. All applicants must be available exclusively for this period.

Application steps and deadlines

Step 1:

Step 2:
2) 6 May – successful applicants will be contacted and asked to prepare a film of themselves performing a short section of supplied audition choreography.
3) 19 May – filmed audition choreography to be submitted by successful applicants
Step 3:
4) Week commencing 31 May – successful applicants invited to live audition
5) Week commencing 28 June – live auditions in line with Covid safety measures (dates, times and London location – tbc)

How to apply

Step 1: please complete and submit the application form CLICK HERE To do so, you will need the following:

  • Details of your experience and training
  • Record a short self-tape introduction with your smartphone
  • Video links of you dancing:

Ideally a freestyle in your strongest style and if possible some other styles to show your versatility (not exceeding 5 mins)

and

If you have one, a professional demo/show reel (although recent graduates are also welcome)

Please note: without a video link where you can be clearly identified we cannot progress your application.

Deadline for applications is 23:00 BST on 26 April 2021.

Unfortunately, late applications cannot not be considered.

Please note:

  • Regrettably, no contributions can be made towards any travel required for the London-based audition
  • Sadler’s Wells can sponsor applicants with a Certificate of Sponsorship (subject to relevant compliances), enabling them to travel and work in the UK exclusively for this engagement
  • Depending on country of residence, some applicants must also hold a valid work permit or visa enabling them to legally work in the UK for the duration of the engagement
