Summer Intensive 2026 // Gymnasium Essen-Werden
We are delighted to announce the first edition of our “Summer Intensive” at Gymnasium Essen-Werden from 24.08.2026 – 29.08.2026! The summer course is aimed at dance students aged 10 to 19 (exceptions possible based on individual assessment), who will be divided into three groups based on age:
Group A: Ages 10–12
Group B: Ages 13–15
Group C: Ages 16–19

The program offers a balance of different dance styles, aiming to integrate the fundamentals of both classical and contemporary dance into an exciting synthesis ranging from ballet and Gaga to repertoire from Felix Landerer, Artistic Director of Tanz Theater Bielefeld. In addition, we are planning discussion formats to address topics such as dancers’ health, auditions, and the various career paths available to dancers.

The dance department at Gymnasium Essen-Werden is a program where students have the opportunity to receive professional preparatory dance training in addition to their regular school curriculum, enabling them to subsequently apply to post-secondary dance programs or companies. It’s the only school in Germany where students can include dance as a subject in their A-levels.
The main focus of the education lies on the fusion of ballet, contemporary dance, and improvisation. By incorporating the latest findings in sports science, the young dancers are being prepared for the high demands of today’s dance world, enabling them to freely develop their individual artistic potential.
