Theatre-Rites are Looking for D/deaf, Disabled & Non Disabled Dancers for an Immersive Production with Manchester International Festival in 2021.

Theatre-Rites is creating an exciting new immersive production for Manchester International Festival (MIF) 2021. South African choreographer Gregory Maqoma will be collaborating with Theatre-Rites’ Artistic Director Sue Buckmaster and Designer Ingrid Hu. Our creative team and performers will be exploring how the culture, customs and habits of different childhood homelands and childhood experiences affect our sense of who we are, our sense of play, and our relationship with the spaces we inhabit and the world around us.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR HIGHLY SKILLED CONTEMPORARY DANCERS (D/deaf, DISABLED and NON-DISABLED DANCERS)

SCHEDULE: Workshop planned for week of 18th Jan 2021 followed by a 6-week rehearsal period starting May with performances in July 2021

BRIEF: The piece will draw from the childhood experiences of the people in the rehearsal room and we are particularly interested to hear from dancers who were born in and spent at least 7 years of their early childhood in a non-European, non-North American country OR experienced a childhood in the UK steeped in and influenced by a non-European or non-North American cultural heritage.

How to Apply: In order to apply you MUST

  • be interested in reflecting on your own experience as a child
  • be currently living in the UK or have permission to work in the UK (we are interested in applicants from across the UK, and particularly welcome applications from those born in or living in Manchester)
  • be available for the rehearsal and performance period. We are currently exploring how best to manage the audition process and anticipate it may be a mix of live and digital sessions.This is a paid position and the salary will be above ITC/Equity weekly minimums.
