Uchena Dance UK Tour ‘The Head Wrap Diaries’
Audition for black female performers (FIERCE & FABULOUS dancers with strong acting ability) to join Uchenna Dance.
Choreographer and Creative Director of Uchenna Dance, Vicki Igbokwe is auditioning for two-three FEMALE performers for the rehearsal and touring of her latest work ‘The Head Wrap Diaries’. The production will tour from July 2017 – April 2018.
The Production:
The Head Wrap Diaries is a dance theatre show set within a South London hair-salon called BE U Tiful, giving the audience front row seats to watch, interact with and become immersed in a journey from childhood to the present day. Three fierce, clever and witty female characters explore community, heritage, womanhood, friendship, and most importantly; hair. The Head Wrap Dairies celebrates versatility in Afro-hair, diversity amongst black women and empowers ALL women to embrace their individual beauty.
Vicki Igbokwe and Uchenna Dance work in the styles of House, Waacking and Vogue, fused with African and Contemporary dance. The production is accompanied by a commissioned soundtrack of Afro house, folk, electronic dance music, jazz and Ghana gospel.

The Performers:
The production involves three female performers. Vicki Igbokwe is auditioning for 2-3 females who will join the existing performers and form part of the team. The new performers will need to learn multiple roles. Casting for performances will be confirmed following the audition. This is a PAID job (Rehearsals & performances).
- Female performer with strong technique and performance skills
- Must be able to learn choreography
- Ability to learn from video (essential)
- Be willing to explore creative tasks set by Choreographer
- Strong in improvisation/freestyle
- Must be confident with performing text alongside movement
- Ability to play various roles including; a 10 year old and older African woman
Pay:
£450 weekly rehearsals
£90 daily rehearsal
£130 performance day
Rehearsals:
Performers must be available for all rehearsal dates, which will take place in London:
- Monday 24 – Friday 28 July, 9am – 6pm
- Monday 31 July – Production day, 9am – 6pm
- Monday 25 – Thursday 28 September, 9am-6pm
- 1 week of rehearsals January / February – dates tbc
Performance Dates:
The Head Wrap Diaries is touring from September – November 2017 and February – April 2018. This will include a tour to rural venues, part of the Rural Touring Dance Initiative.
