Keneish Dance are Looking for Strong Contemporary and African-Caribbean Dancers

Keneish Dance are looking for strong male and female dancers that are professionally trained in Contemporary and African–Caribbean derived dance styles (traditional–street) to take part in an R&D phase and performances of our new piece High between 31st July – 20th September (3 – 4 weeks in total). We are also looking for dancers for Keneish Dance’s up-coming production in the Spring and Summer of 2018.

The Company:
With a repertoire that includes traditional African dance, contemporary, ballet and jazz, Keneish Dance has developed a style that speaks to and reflects the contemporary artistic practice of our divers British communities.

The Productions:
High is the new highly physical and heart deep work that we are currently working on. It is currently in its second phase of research and development and is based on the realm of ‘health’ through a journey of escape, acceptance and memories. High will look at the emotional and psychological stages of overcoming addiction. Homing in on the individual in an autobiographical styled journey as well as universal perspective on how we strive to protect our vulnerability. The work will be made with a stripped back visual design and a striking cast of dancers. We are proud to have the support from Arts Council England, REP Theatre in Birmingham and Sandwell College to enable us to undertake this 2nd round R&D to develop the work which will eventually be 1hr show. The aims of High are to create a space to ponder and reflect on your own health and what you can do to help it. In a time where we rely on social media to tell an individual’s life story.

African Sanctus will be developed to be performed alongside Sheffield Oratorio Chorus in June 2018 with tour dates in August – October.

Production Dates:
High Rehearsals: 31 July – 18 August
High Performance: 20 August
