ULTIMA VEZ REPERTORY WORKSHOP – TRACES
Join us for a workshop that immerses you in the physical, intuitive, and theatrical language of Ultima Vez. Over the course of five full days, you will enter the company’s unique approach to movement, creation, and performance – a practice in which intense physicality, intuition, and theatricality are inseparable.
During this workshop, Alexandros and Maureen will delve into the universe of TRACES. In this 2019 creation, set amidst the overwhelming Romanian primeval forests, Wim Vandekeybus and the dancers questioned how much nature still lives within humankind. How much animal remains in the human body. What happens when we are at risk or in danger, when we must rely on intuition to make split-second decisions in order to survive? Searching for traces that are older than humankind and its memory, the inner story emerges – the story that unfolds before or beyond language, and that can only be expressed through the pulses of dance and music.
Each day combines physical training, improvisation, and creative exploration, gradually building towards a final collective sharing. Together, you will explore the fundamental principles of Ultima Vez’s movement language: listening, spatial awareness, movement intention, presence, energy, trust, conflict, and risk. You will also investigate the role of physical sensations and emotions, and discover how they can be transformed into living material for the stage.
